Ono Tacos, Lahaina, HI

Another beautiful day (only our second, but I'm sensing a pattern).  We went to bed at 8:30 last night, so early rise.  We were up at 5:30am...made some coffee, had some breakfast and started our day.  We went for a walk north on the beach boardwalk.  There are seemingly miles of boardwalk along the beach - we met many early morning runners, walkers and strollers.  We headed up as far as we could, then veered off the path onto the beach to watch the surfers.  Great Northern swells are in right now and creating some excellent waves for the surfers (of which, I am not).

In the early afternoon we scoped out a taco stand I saw on Urbanspoon.  Ono Taco is a very humble looking place - just a few tables, a grill, a cook with a smile and some delicious food.  We ordered the taco platter - two tacos (I had the ono, hubbie had the shrimp), rice and beans.  Before we got our food, the salivating began.  We could smell the spices and seasoning wafting towards us as we awaited delivery of our meals.  When the plate arrived we were not disappointed.  Two double shelled small tacos, stuffed with fish and shredded cabbage ($8.50).  A choice of many other toppings was available.  A range of salsas, pickled onions, guacamole sauce, diced onion with cilantro and fresh citrus.  I can't really tell you what was going on around us as we ate, as neither of us were speaking.  One of the best tacos I have eaten.  I think I need to go back.

For dinner, I purchased a meal kit from the grocery store.  For under $10, the package contained sliced chicken breast, fresh broccoli, sliced onion, cabbage, shredded cabbage and a package of stir-fry seasoning.  Normally, I prefer to make my own, however, without my ample pantry, I chose convenience.  With some added fresh garlic, salt and pepper it was actually pretty good - better than I expected.  An excellent value.
