Thursday Best Bites - Indian Express

What:  Indian Lunch

Where:  1000 Somerset Street West, Ottawa, Ontario

Comments:  A friend (thanks LY) let me know about this place.  I love Indian food, but sometimes find a buffet too much.  Not because of the food itself, but simply due to my lack of self control when presented with so many chafing dishes brimming with wonderful curries and sauces.  (I need a moment...)

Carrying on...this restaurant is a great option for someone like me.  I get to have several dishes, not eat too much and everyone is happy.  We were there for the lunch special - 7 items for $10 dollars.  What you get for this is three curries of your choice, rice, naan, a pickled carrot salad and a carrot dessert called Burfi.
Clockwise Top Left:  Saag Paneer, Chicken Curry, Chickpea Curry, Carrot Pickle, Basmati Rice, Naan, Burfi

We ordered inside, then went outside to enjoy the weather.  Within 10 minutes, we were served our meals.  The 'prison' style tray (couldn't think of any other way to describe it) was a nice touch to be honest and I don't see any other way of getting so many different yummy things onto your plate without it turning into a hot mess.  I like the separation of the items.  Allows me to control the sauce to rice ratio - very important, as you know, when consuming saucy Indian delectables.

Worth a return visit - the butter chicken my dining companion had was truly scrumptious.

Although I am not a huge fan of desserts, I was nonetheless amazed at the beauty of the items that had been prepared and were on display.  Like tiny works of art.  If you are a fan of Indian desserts, I suspect this would be the place to stop in for a sweet treat and some tea.
